Go Boats

Canberra is well-known for its man-made lake in the heart of the city, Lake Burley Griffin. It is very picturesque, with the Captain Cook jet fountain and views of icon national buildings, like the National Library and Questacon. The only problem is that you can’t really swim in it, and most activities on the water involve some level of skill (ie. Canoeing). But what if I told you there was a way you could have fun, eat, and enjoy Canberra views. Where you could sit back and relax, steer your own boat with minimal effort and all while on the lake?

Forrest Hotel and Apartment’s recommendation of the week is the 'GoBoat'.

So, what is a GoBoat?

GoBoats are motor powered picnic boats, steered by a handle, and that means, no more paddling! The routes that you go along take anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hours, depending on which trip you book. The prices are per boat and each boat fits up to 8 people, so the cost of this activity is quite inexpensive per person. I’ve done the maths, and if you have a boat of 8 people and only go for an hour (which is still a great ride), the total is $99.00. This means it will only cost each person $12.38.

Okay if you are not yet convinced, my next sentence will have you. You can bring dogs! The trip I went on included 6 human adults and a medium sized, very cute dog. We fit quite comfortably, granted we also brought quite a lot of food with us.

The scenery is so beautiful, especially when the Captain Cook fountain is running. DISCLAIMER -* You do get sprayed if you go too close. * If you enjoy admiring a good landscape and being in the fresh air, then you will love this boat ride. So, some advice for when you do try this, make sure to take sunscreen, sunglasses, food, your appetite and of course, the people you would like to spend time with. Oh, and go to the bathroom beforehand.
